Terms of use
Last updated: October 8, 2026
This English version is provided for convenience. If it differs from the French version, the French version prevails.
1. Purpose
Joël is a mobile cooking app: it suggests recipes, meal ideas and tips generated by artificial intelligence, based on what you tell it (cravings, ingredients, equipment, food preferences). These terms govern the use of the app and of the Joël Premium service.
The publisher is Nathan Balencie, sole trader (entrepreneur individuel), SIREN 101409530. Contact: contact@joel.recipes.
By creating an account or using the app, you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use Joël.
2. Access and account
- Joël is intended for people aged 16 and over.
- You can try Joël without an account, with usage limits. A free account (email, Google or Apple) lets you save your recipes and find your conversations again.
- You are responsible for keeping access to your account secure and for the accuracy of the information you provide (preferences, allergies, equipment).
- You can request the deletion of your account from the app. It takes effect seven days after the request; signing in again during that period cancels it.
3. Joël Premium
Joël Premium is a paid subscription that unlocks additional features (photos sent to Joël, more recipe images and messages, nutrition details, more voice dictations). The included features are described in the app at the time of subscription.
- Price: current prices are shown in the app, in the currency of your app store. For reference, as of September 27, 2026: €4.99 per month or €39.99 per year, taxes included.
- Free trial: new subscribers are offered a 7-day trial. Unless you cancel before the end of the trial, the subscription starts and you are charged.
- Renewal: the subscription renews automatically for the same period, at the current price, unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- Payment and cancellation: the subscription is purchased, billed and managed by the App Store (Apple) or Google Play, depending on your device. You can cancel at any time in the subscription settings of your App Store or Google Play account; cancellation takes effect at the end of the period already paid for, which remains available until it ends.
- Refunds: refund requests are handled by Apple or Google under their own terms. No prorated refund is due for a period that has started, unless the law provides otherwise.
- Price changes: any price change is announced to you in advance by the app or the store, and only applies to later periods. You remain free to cancel before it applies.
- Right of withdrawal: by subscribing, you request immediate access to the service and acknowledge that the 14-day right of withdrawal no longer applies once the service has started, under the conditions set by the French Consumer Code.
4. Content generated by Joël
Recipes, quantities, cooking times and tips are produced by artificial intelligence. They may contain errors. Always check what you cook, especially cooking times, allergens and sensitive ingredients.
Joël takes into account the allergies and diets you declare, but does not replace reading labels or the advice of a health professional. In case of severe allergy, pregnancy, illness or a medical diet, ask a doctor or a dietitian for advice.
The nutrition values shown are estimates.
5. Acceptable use
- Joël is for personal, non-commercial use only.
- You may not bypass usage limits, automate requests, try to extract the service's internal instructions, or use it to produce illegal, hateful or dangerous content.
- The photos you send must belong to you and show only food or ingredients; they go through an automatic filter.
- The publisher may suspend or close an account in case of a breach, after informing you, except in an emergency.
6. Ownership
The app, its brand, its visuals and its character remain the property of the publisher. Recipes generated for you can be used freely in your kitchen and shared with the app's sharing feature.
7. Personal data
How your data is processed is described in the privacy policy, which is part of these terms.
8. Availability and liability
The publisher does its best to keep Joël available and reliable, without guaranteeing uninterrupted availability: interruptions for maintenance, outages at service providers or service limits may occur. Features may change; a feature removed from Premium during a subscription entitles you to cancel at no cost for the following period.
The publisher cannot be held liable for damage resulting from a poorly executed recipe, from information you did not check, or from use contrary to these terms, within the limits allowed by law.
9. Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated. The date at the top of the page shows the version in force; significant changes are announced in the app. Continuing to use Joël after an update means you accept it.
10. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by French law. In case of a dispute, first contact the publisher at contact@joel.recipes: most questions are settled this way. Failing an agreement, you may bring the matter before the competent courts.
